Volunteer to Help

MAM's Employment Services program uses volunteers in four different capacities:

  1. Computer Literacy Volunteers.  Assist clients in the computer lab, to learn keyboarding, email, internet and basic word processing. We seek persons with excellent interpersonal skills to handle a wide variety of client challenges, and strong computer skills to assist with practical and common computer learning issues. Computer Literacy Volunteers are needed in half day shifts, either mornings or afternoons, Monday through Friday. We prefer volunteers who can make a regular weekly commitment to a time slot.
  2. Volunteer Job Coaches.  Assist staff in the orientation of new clients and assist clients in a one-on-one environment to edit and polish resumes, develop job search strategies and to practice interviewing skills.  Job Coaches also teach workplace “soft skills” to clients to enable them to fit into new work environments.  Job Coaches must have some experience in the selection and management of new employees.  We will provide training on the content of such coaching.  Job Coaches are needed in half-day shifts, either mornings or afternoons, Monday through Friday.  We prefer volunteers who can make a regular weekly commitment to a time slot.
  3. Employment Certification Program Instructors.  Lead workshop participants in discussion on a variety of topics relating to Job Search and Job Retention skills. We seek persons with experience in either teaching or making presentations before groups of people.  Those who have a background in Human Resources or in the selection and management of new employees are most especially needed. We will provide training on the content of the presentations. Workshop Instructors are needed on selected weekdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  4. Mentors for ECP Graduates.  Provide counsel to Certificate Program graduates on a one-on-one basis. You need to have a nurturing and compassionate approach, yet instill high expectations on a client who will be assigned to you subject to mutual approval. Expectations are a six month mentor relationship (longer if both parties approve), comprised of monthly face-to-face meetings and weekly “stay in touch” phone calls.

If you have an interest in making a difference in someone's life, we are a great place to do that.
